Glenn Family Scholarship Fund
The second generation of Glenn children have made their way through St. Ignatius Parish School following in the footsteps of their aunts, uncles and parents. In recognition of the quality education that St. Ignatius School has provided the Glenn family from 1956 until present, Ila Glenn established the Glenn Family Scholarship Fund in late 2006, shortly following her husband Wesley’s death.
Wesley and Ila moved into the parish in 1953 and lived on SE 62ndand Taggart where they established roots and raised their family over the next 53 years. They had 6 children – Stan, LeNae, Sherri, Michele, Steve and Robert – and many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. All of the children graduated from St. Ignatius school and many grand children have also attended and graduated.
Life for the Glenn family has revolved around St. Ignatius Parish and School for three generations, with the entire family involved in a multitude of parish and school activities. Working on the Italian Dinner, altar serving, attending and hosting guild activities, participating in the SEEL program, playing and coaching in many CYO sports, serving on the Pastoral Council, Administrative Council, supporting St. Vincent DePaul and volunteering in the school are just the beginnings of a list of activities the family has been and is still involved with.
St. Ignatius Parish has imprinted each member of the family with many elements of our Catholic Faith and has been the site of family celebrations since 1953…baptisms, confirmations, first communion, reconciliation, weddings, funerals – all many times over. It is the family’s firm belief that parish and school life intertwine in many wonderful ways and that is at the core of helping a child develop to their full potential with strong values and beliefs in Catholic teachings.
The Glenn family greatly appreciates the long line of Jesuit priests and Holy Name sisters who have so ably met the spiritual, emotional and educational needs of the family. From John Thatcher SJ, to Peter Byrne SJ, from Sr. Marcia Anne SNJM to Sr. Chris Jordan SNJM, these unending lines of men and women have given of themselves tirelessly to support the Glenn family and many other parishioners over the years. The teachings of the Jesuits and Holy Names to serve others have become entrenched in the family culture. To all of these men and women we say - thank you.
It is the Glenn Family’s wish that the establishment of this fund will help future St. Ignatius Parish children attend St. Ignatius School who may otherwise not be able to.
